111.7bn Turkish lira support to core-capitals of state-owned banks

As per its mandate to reinforce the improvement and deepening of financial markets in Türkiye, Türkiye Wealth Fund (TWF) completed the increase of core capitals of three state-owned banks, T.C. Ziraat Bankası A.Ş., Türkiye Halk Bankası A.Ş., and Türkiye Vakıflar Bankası T.A.O by a total of 111.7 billion Turkish lira in an action to strengthen the capital structures.

With the injection, T.C. Ziraat Bankası A.Ş.’s capital will be boosted by 49.7 billion Turkish lira, while the capital contribution is 30 billion Turkish lira to Türkiye Halk Bankası A.Ş. and 32 billion Turkish lira to Türkiye Vakıflar Bankası T.A.O. After the transaction, TWF raised its 87.7% shares in Halkbank to 91.5%, and 64.8% shares in VakıfBank to 74.8%.

The strong increase in capital has been implemented with the aim of enhancing the capital adequacy ratios of public banks, increasing the financial resilience of banks to potential market fluctuations, contributing to growth strategies, supporting the real sector, and meeting the financing needs of our citizens who have been impacted by the earthquake disaster in our country.

The financing of the capital injection is provided by the cash generated from the debt securities issued by the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Treasury and Finance as private placement to TWF that will be purchased by the state-owned banks.
