Transfer of İzmir Port to Türkiye Wealth Fund Completed

The transfer process of İzmir Port, owned by Türkiye Wealth Fund (TWF) and operated by the Turkish State Railways (TCDD), to Türkiye Wealth Fund was completed as of 1 August 2026. İzmir Port will be restructured into a more efficient, sustainable logistics hub operating in line with international standards through the planned modernization investments.

Türkiye Wealth Fund is launching a comprehensive transformation process at İzmir Port, in line with its approach to enhancing the long-term value creation capacity of strategic assets. The project aims to improve the port's competitiveness, strengthen İzmir's logistics infrastructure, and make a lasting contribution to the regional economy.

Ownership of the Port Will Remain with Türkiye Wealth Fund

Under the operating and investment model for İzmir Port, ownership of the port will remain with Türkiye Wealth Fund, and no concession will be transferred. At İzmir Port, which consists of two main sections—the cargo terminal and the passenger terminal—operating and investment models tailored to the needs of each section will be implemented.

The cargo terminal will be operated by Alport, which has international experience in port operations. While the modernization investments are implemented in phases, the cargo terminal will continue to provide services without any interruption to its operations.

The new operating structure aims to increase the port's operational efficiency, improve service quality, and strengthen its integration with international transportation networks.

The Cargo Terminal Will Undergo a Comprehensive Modernization Process

As part of the transformation program for the cargo terminal, the existing infrastructure and superstructure will be rehabilitated, renewed, and modernized, while growth investments supporting the port's development will also be implemented. Shaped by the principles of environmental sustainability, this approach will increase not only the economic value of İzmir Port but also its urban and environmental contribution.

The Passenger Terminal Will Be Developed Under a Separate Model

The operating and investment model for the passenger terminal will be addressed under a separate framework in line with the terminal's specific needs. In addition to expanding the passenger terminal's service capacity, the project also plans to include commercial, social, and cultural areas integrated with the port and its surrounding area. In this way, the project aims to increase the passenger terminal's contribution to İzmir's tourism potential and the city's economy.

The İzmir Port Project is based on the long-term development of a strategic publicly owned asset. Upon completion of the transformation, the port will become a modern facility that supports İzmir's trade, logistics, and tourism capacity, strengthens regional connectivity, and contributes to Türkiye's sustainable growth.
